In White Oak, Maryland, a proposed 300-acre project is expected to bring thousands of new jobs to the community as well as a new draw for businesses in the life sciences, health, and tech sectors. Washington Business Journal reported that LifeSci Village, a $3 billion mixed-use development pitched four years ago, was recently renamed to Viva White Oak. Located North of the Food and Drug Administration consolidated campus and south of the proposed Washington Adventist Hospital site, this project will feature over 5,000 residential units and span seven-million-square-feet of nonresidential development. According to Washington Business Journal, 185 acres of the site currently houses a sand and gravel quarry. The first phase of the project will build 1,000 market-rate residential units, 300,000-square-feet of commercial development, and more than $100 million in transportation improvements. This project is a component of Montgomery County Council’s White Oak Science Gateway Master Plan, which is a strategy to transform East County into a vibrant mixed-use community.
